WELCOME TO THE RESIDENCY
The space and time to journey to the future of your community's wildest dreams
Who We Are
The Research and Development department of Health Leads is a team of 6 individuals that use our skill sets to identify, develop, test, and document innovative ideas related to racial health equity.
Over the past two years we combined the strengths of already established design processes and anti-racist values and practices to create a new process for developing innovative projects.
The innovation required to take us to an equitable future exists right now in under-represented communities affected by racism. Through our experience working with local partners across the nation, we observed that those fulfilling essential roles within their communities were often burdened with little-to-no resources. When the community depends so heavily on these organizations for basic services, it is hard for the organization to dedicate resources to new ideas and projects. We hope that by partnering with organizations delivering critical services to their communities and funding the growth of new ideas that good ideas can grow. We believe that these organizations have expert knowledge of their communities’ needs, and we want to help them innovate for their communities by funding and supporting the development of innovative project concepts.
About the Maker’s Residency
Through our experience working with organizations rooted in their communities, we observed that those fulfilling essential roles within their communities were often overloaded.

There are more community needs than resources. When organizations are cornerstones of their community it is much harder to delegate resources to try something wildly new. Such organizations and individuals with lived experience have the most intimate understanding of the problems caused by systemic oppression. Only with this deep understanding can sustainable solutions arise. We hope that by sharing and coaching organizations that play critical roles in their communities through our Concept Pipeline process that good ideas can be brought to realization.
The Makers Residency is a
X week program for community leaders who deeply understand the problems that they and their neighbors are facing but haven't had the time, space or resources to reflect on potential solutions and would be interested in designing and testing new ideas.
Who is this for?
This is our first time running this program, so we are looking for people and organizations who are excited to try something new and are willing to learn with us and give us feedback so that we can improve how we run this residency.
